Best-selling author and award-winning speaker Bertice Bery, Ph.D. combines her skills as a sociologist and researcher with her love of laughter to move audiences to action. Bertice Berry, Ph.D., is one of the most sought after speakers in the country, combining her accomplishments as a researcher and sociologist with her innate talent for comedy to engage and teach audiences at the same time. The bestselling author of the inspirational memoir, I'm On My Way, But Your Foot Is On My Head, Dr. Berry has also published four bestselling novels and two humor books.
Few people are able to defy stereotypes, generalizations or clichés more than Dr. Berry. Although she now holds a Ph.D. in Sociology, as a poor young woman growing up in Delaware, she was told by a high school teacher that she was “not college material”. Despite the discouragement, Bertice applied to several schools and eventually graduated magna cum laude from Jacksonville.
Dr. Berry achieved her doctorate degree and stayed to teach sociology at Kent State University. It was during her career as a professor that she realized that her use of humor to address difficult subjects such as racism and sexism created a more lasting and profound impact upon her students.
After this realization Dr. Berry left Kent to become an award-winning entertainer, lecturer and comedienne. She was the host and co-producer of her own nationally syndicated talk show, hosted “USA Live”, and has been featured on numerous other shows including “The Oprah Winfrey Show”, “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and ABC’s “20/20”.
